MMMMmmmm Free Food!

Today the girls and I took advantage of the free Grand Slams at Denny's. We pulled up only to find people waiting on the lawn outside. We went in and were told it was an hour wait. I was fine with that ... Really. I'm getting free food. I'm willing to wait. So we make a little corner of the grass ours and let the girls free. Ariana still hadn't finished her bottle so she was pretty well contained. Alana on the other hand was everywhere. We waited for only a half an hour before they called our name. I was shocked!We sat down and they asked if I wanted two grand slams and of course I said yes. This is where Ariana starts getting crazy. She even carved "I want my pancakes!" into the table with her baby spoon. Just kidding. But she was banging on it and signing eat.Alana found ways to entertain herself. It's amazing what a spoon will do for a kid. First she tried balancing it on her nose. She had problems getting that to work so she tried her cheek.

Here is the result...It worked! And just in time for our food to come. They were so quick! I waited only about five minutes from the time I ordered to the time the food was sitting in front of us.

Thank you Denny's! We had a good time.

What a fun outing! Did not know Dennys was giving free Grand Slams. Like how Alana entertained herself. Wish I was there with you and made it a girl party.

Friday, March 23, 2012   I received a phone call from my oldest daughter Alana's Kindergarten teacher. Mrs Munos was concerned that Alana wasn't acting her bubbly self.  I had noticed that she seemed to have been sleeping a lot and wrote it off to the time change and just getting back from spring break. But now I had a little flag from her teacher.  I began to wonder if there was something wrong with her.  My first thought was depression.  So I sent her out on a Daddy Daughter date with my husband to see if it would boost her spirits. No such luck.  I've never heard of a child being so glum at the Kemah Boardwalk. But in fact, she hardly cracked a smile. Over the weekend Alana seemed to get worse.  She slept for a good part of church on my lap and I really began to worry.  Alana was eating like a teenage boy, drinking a ton of water and using the restroom several times an hour.  My husband, Chris, even thought she might have mono. ...

Hugs Jugs

We D-Mommas are always looking for low carb options for our kids.  While at Kroger yesterday, I felt compelled to check the carb counts on Little Hug Fruit Barrels.   I was very surprised to find that one Hug was only 2 grams of carbs and twenty count box is only $3! I was so excited that I bought two boxes.   When it came time to pick the girls up from school, the excitement was still flowing through my veins.  So I packed a few in my purse to give the girls in the car on the way home.   Results of the taste test were awesome.  Alana loves them.  Not to mention that they made her feel more like a normal kids.  Normal is great in my book.   I'm trilled that I no longer have to by different drinks for all the girls.  The price, taste and nutritional facts make Hugs a winner in our home.

All in the Family?

 This is one of the saddest posts I've had to write in some time... Two weeks ago I got a phone call from my brother in law, Brad.  He started the conversation with a little laugh and "I think your Alana has rubbed off on Reed" I was perplexed.  Oh no.  What did Alana do now?   "It looks like Reed is a type 1 diabetic too" I was floored.  I had just gone to Alana's school to give a talk on T1D, now we have another child in my husband's family who is insulin dependent. (My pancreas prop) Reed and Alana were born a year and two days apart. Reed had to go to the hospital in DKA on his tenth birthday.  It's the worst birthday present EVER!!! I felt hopeless and all I wanted to drop everything and fly out to Utah to help out.  But Alana was turning nine the next day and there was just no way I could make it happen.  So we scheduled to skype that night.
